Chow Yun Fat, Carina Lau, and Jacky Cheung were all in Beijing today to promote The Man From Macau III. Click here for my previous post about the movie.
This is exciting for those of us who grew up watching Hong Kong soap operas because you’ll recall, Carina and Brother Fat starred in Police Cadet 85. Police Cadet is also where most of us met Tony Leung who you know from In The Mood For Love and, if you’re like Quentin Tarantino and a fan of John Woo movies, Hard Boiled.
But, back to Police Cadet 85, my favourite of the franchise, because there was actual kissing which, back then, didn’t happen on TV a lot in Asia, look at the poster!
F-ck I need a streaming service that only plays old shows from that era.
As you can see, even though it’s been 30 years, Brother Fat and Carina have not changed. That jacket he’s wearing? Come on. And Jacky Cheung hasn’t changed either. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Jacky is considered one of the most iconic recording artists to come out of Hong Kong. Many believe his vocal talent is unparalleled in Cantopop. He’s basically the Beyonce of Chinese romance songs. If you’ve ever eaten at a Chinese restaurant, or shopped at a Chinese supermarket, I guarantee you’ve heard this song before.
