The new cover of Entertainment Weekly featuring the two sure bets at for this year’s Oscars. It seems a foregone conclusion that Daniel Day-Lewis will take Best Actor and Javier Bardem will take Best Supporting…

Even George Clooney has conceded:

“If you want my honest opinion, I think it’s going to be Daniel Day-Lewis. He sort of irritates all of us because he’s so good. I’ll tell you right now, I don’t like him!”

Snort.

Here’s Daniel at the Berlin Film Festival today promoting There Will Be Blood and Javier the hotness with his quivering hair in black and white in EW. Full article is here and it’s a great read.

My favourite part is Javier’s description of his approach to the role of sadistic killer Anton Chigurh. Oftentimes, as in the case of Britney Spears, we try so hard to justify bad behaviour because the alternative is too bleak – what if evil has no explanation? No psychological backstory? What if people just born wicked, period?

This essentially was Bardem’s method – no excuses, no childhood torture for his killer, just simply a terrible, terrible human being. And why is it that he’s the most interesting character in the film?

Worth your 10 minutes – have a look.
