The news of Scarlett Johansson’s musical aspirations was initially met with much scorn. Another actress trying to be a singer…not exactly the best track record.
Now comes word that David Bowie contributed, literally, a few “oohs and ahhs” on Scarjo’s album and Bowie himself has written that Scarjo’s upcoming Tom Waits cover is “really, really good…and Scarlett’s performances are mystical and twice cool. She creates a mood that could have been summoned by someone like Margery Latimer and Jeanette Winterson”.
Damn.
Now THAT is high praise indeed.
And for you cynics out there, Bowie does not need the money. Remember he owns the rights to all his music through the Bowie Bonds, inspiring other songwriters to secure intellectual property rights to their own collections as well.
The point is – he wasn’t guesting on Scarjo’s record for the cash.
Scarlett Johansson a legitimate musician?
We’ll find out in May.
