Emmys nomination voting is currently underway and will end on Monday, June 25th. In the Lead Actress Comedy category, Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson is the overwhelming favourite and experts are saying that The Marvelous Mrs Maisel’s Rachel Brosnahan will likely be included. But there are several contenders whose names could be called to round out the list of five nominees. And it’s great to see that Devery Jacobs is part of the conversation for her performance in Reservation Dogs.

She was featured recently as part of The Hollywood Reporter’s Comedy Actress Roundtable alongside Sheryl Lee Ralph, Natasha Lyonne, Ayo Edebiri, Jenna Ortega, and Elle Fanning, all of whom are in consideration for the Emmy. She went viral for a moment during that roundtable when she respectfully corrected Sheryl when she misspoke:

It’s amazing to see a Mohawk actress campaigning during award season. And in a few months we could see another as Lily Gladstone, of the Blackfeet Nation, could very well be in the race for Best Actress Oscar if the hype holds up out of Cannes after Killers of the Flower Moon screened there. That is by no means enough, but Indigenous creatives are continuing to make space for themselves and their stories so that doors can be opened for more.

Devery, for example, is also a writer on Reservation Dogs. She made the request basically as soon as she was cast, letting showrunner Sterlin Harjo know that she intended to be part of the writers’ room – and she joined the writers’ room in the second season. During production on season two, on top of acting and writing, she shadowed the directors. That has resulted in her directing an episode of season three; Devery has directed several short films but this is her first time directing an episode of television.

So she’s continuously building her skillset. Which means she’s working towards a future that will see her probably writing, producing, and directing her own series or feature film, creating opportunity for others in the community and taking advantage of Emmy season, whether or not she actually gets nominated, to increase her profile and build more momentum. That will only grow later this year when Echo premieres. Echo is the MCU and that’s a whole other level of exposure. Devery Jacobs, coming in hot.
