Eddie Redmayne over Benedict Cumberbatch…
Have you seen The Theory Of Everything? I’ve had a boner for it ever since TIFF. So, yes, he deserved to win. And he certainly deserves to move into second place tied or ahead of Benedict Cumberbatch. And for the Academy members who were watching last night, that’s a shakeup too. Oh. The skinny English kid won over the weird looking guy from Sherlock? Do I need to re-evaluate?
It’s not like Eddie hasn’t been campaigning. Tirelessly. It’s just that…well… it hasn’t seemed so… frantic. Eddie’s strategy appeared to be of the “it’s enough to just be nominated” variety. He’s given nothing away to suggest that he thinks he could win. And maybe that’s the difference. Maybe that’s why he was the one with the English accent who got up on stage to accept the award for Leading Actor in a Drama on his honeymoon.
So is it a Michael Keaton/Eddie Redmayne-off now? I don’t know. I feel like Eddie’s win only benefits Michael Keaton. If it’s between the two of them competing for Academy votes, the Academy’s going with the veteran, non? Especially considering how lovely Michael Keaton’s speech was.
On style though…
It’s Eddie. It’s always Eddie.
