Warner Bros released the first photo of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman today. It’s a little underwhelming. I mean, I know Christopher Nolan doesn’t do cheese so her cat-mask is more like a set of goggles and I don’t see any pointy ears which, fine, because camp has never been the tone of this particular iteration of the franchise but if that’s the case, when you’re introducing her to me for the first time, at least give me some idea of why she’d be called Catwoman, some sense of her pussy-themed personality because otherwise, this is just a badass stuntwoman going Lara Croft on a boss looking bike, you know what I mean?

Also…

The image, obviously, is from a scene in the film so, you know, it can’t be too posed and perfect, I get that, but I look at that background and all I can think about is how much I hate the paint colour and who’s going to pull the fire alarm?

They’re still shooting the movie. They don’t have their shots together yet. Eventually there will be better ones. Really, really amazing ones. Because this is Christopher Nolan. He is a master. OK. Totally. Understand. But then why rush this out? I don’t know anyone who woke up this morning and was all like - goddamn this day will be sh-t unless I see a picture of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, they better f-cking release it! You?

Thing is, I don’t see Nolan behind this. I don’t see him going through a series of screen captures and picking this one to send out. I think this is marketing getting all eager about it and driving interest and that is the objective certainly but with this photo, did they achieve that, or did they kinda make you feel medium? Because I can’t wait to see Anne Hathaway in the actual movie, I really can’t. And I feel like they’re trying to take that away from me.

Let me know your thoughts.
