Joe Wright is a good director. And I did like Hook, with Robin Williams. But this first look at Pan…an origin story…
I have some concerns.
One concern is Hugh Jackman’s hair.
Can you see the wig line – glaringly – across the top of his head in several shots? These are the kinds of details that can become distracting. Jackman, of course, plays Blackbeard (imitating Gary Oldman in Dracula). And there’s Garrett Hedlund as a young Captain Hook who doesn’t appear to have become a bad guy yet. As for Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily…
The whitewash in the casting is not her fault. So I don’t want to put it on her. But that was already an issue before production even started. And now they’re coming with a trailer that is, well, from the two minutes we’re seeing here, not exactly OMG OMG OMG this looks amazing. So…
We have a lot of ground to cover. This is supposed to be a summer blockbuster. You think it can compete?
