Celebrity marriage is taking a beating this week. Laura Dern and Ben Harper, Cox-Arquette, Christina Aguilera, all over and done. A friend of mine emailed this morning wondering if Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale could be next. What?

You’ve heard about his admission in Details Magazine, haven’t you?

Boy George has been saying forever that Rossdale had a relationship with cross-dressing artist Marilyn many years ago. This is not news. Marilyn also confirmed that they were together. Click here to see pictures.

When asked about the affair and why he’s never spoken publicly about it, Gavin told Details:

I think at the outset there was a sort of fear—that was right at the beginning of Bush, and I didn't want it to be part of it. It felt like a cheap shot, so I was like, "I'm not getting involved." I've never wanted to appear closed about it. It's not something I've talked about really because it's always been in the glare of a tabloid world. It's just one of those things: Move on. When you're 17, Jesus Christ. I don't think there's anything strange about any form of—you're learning about life. It's a part of growing up. That's it. No more, no less.

Details: So it was just a one-time experimentation?
Gavin Rossdale: Yeah. That was it. You have to know what you like, and I know what I like.

Fine. Door closed right?

Never.

Now the NY Daily News is reporting that Gwen Stefani didn’t know. That she heard the rumours but always believed them to be false. That Gavin has been begging Details not to include that part of the conversation in their publication but that they went ahead and printed it anyway.

Really?

You buy that she was totally unaware? I mean, you looked at those pictures, right? And you buy that she would have bought that he and Marilyn were never together?

I don’t buy that.

I mean, I buy that we are prone to believe the lies from our lovers, yes, of course, and I buy that she was so sick in love with him at the very beginning and would have done anything to have him, totally, but I don’t buy that this is about her being deceived.

This is about her reputation. Could the MiniVan Majority accept that Gwen knowingly married a man who loved another man? Or would they rather feel sorry for her that she married a man who didn’t tell her the truth about loving another man?

Please. That’s exactly what this is about. Right now they just need to save her face.

Here’s Gavin heading to an event at the Grove in LA last week and with Gwen at NY Fashion Week in September.
