Half of you, maybe more, probably don’t know what I’m talking about. When did I get so old?

Favourite John Irving book? Mine used to be A Prayer For Owen Meany. I read it when I was 18 and thought it was the best sh-t ever. I read it again 3 years ago and couldn’t believe I liked it. Has that ever happened to you?

As for The World According to Garp, happily I haven’t changed my mind. I might actually like it more now than before.

Garp, the movie, was released almost 30 years ago. Robin Williams was at the Mill Valley Film Festival yesterday. And Glenn Close is being honoured there tonight. And there was a lovely, sweet reunion. And, I dunno, it just made me happy that they were so affectionate.

This of course could just be the beginning of a season of awards for Glenn who is considered to be a lock for a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her performance in Albert Nobbs. Given all the goodwill she’s generated throughout her career, and since she doesn’t have one already (Streep), could this be her time?

How many of you are still reading this article? An article about Glenn Close and Robin Williams?
