A sign of things to come? The Hollywood Foreign Press spread the love last night, awarding top honours to Atonement but shutting the film out of acting and directing honours. No Country For Old Men, which had been gaining momentum up to this point, only managed a Best Supporting win for Javier Bardem.

Meanwhile, Sweeney Todd is now positioned well for Oscar with a Johnny Depp/Daniel Day Lewis showdown in the Best Actor category. Looks like DDL will win his 2nd. And looks like my girl Marion Cotillard will go head to head against Julie Christie.

Best of all? The HFPA does NOT appear to be as enamoured with America’s newest sweetheart Katherine Heigl who was the favourite going in to last night. Instead, Supporting TV actress went to Samantha Morton – love, love, love. Even better, Grey’s Anatomy, after its asswipe of a 3rd season lost out on everything, including Best Drama which went to the very deserving Mad Men.

This made my life.

Also LOVE Duchovny’s comeback and Queen Latifah too.

Next up – the SAGs on January 27th which promises to be a much splashier affair. Perhaps the only splashy affair of the season if the writer’s conflict isn’t soon resolved.

Finally… what a major letdown for my Rumey! As you know, Rumer Willis was tapped as Miss Golden Globe this year and the show’s cancellation meant that Rumey missed out on the opportunity to introduce herself to huge international audience.

Of course she still managed to hit up the gifting suites and graciously told People.com:

"You can wear a pretty dress any time. It"s more about supporting people, your peers, and the other people that are struggling right now."

Ummmm… who exactly are my Rumey’s peers??? Does she mean other actors? Is Cate Blanchett Rumey’s peer?

Rumey… please!

Here she is at the Art of Elysium event the other night looking not objectionable at all! Yay for good angles!
