A couple of years ago, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ryan Murphy were going to do a movie together called One Hit Wonders and Reese Witherspoon and Cameron Diaz were attached to the project too. All The Skinny Singing Blondes. Then Amy Pascal left Sony and the film plans fell apart.
Now, in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan says that he and G have reshaped the idea into a television series and that he’ll soon be pitching the show to cable networks. G is still on board to executive produce and star as a 40 year old woman who had one single 15 years ago and now has no money, no friends, no future, until she gets a call from a producer who wants to form a super group with two other one hit wonders. Like American Horror Story, it won’t be an ongoing narrative but there will be new stories and new stars every season.
Ryan says it’s a show about “female empowerment” and “second acts”. And that converges nice with where G’s career is at too. Second acts. Once upon a time G described Jennifer Aniston as “the TV girl” who was dating Brad…and look where we are now. G wants to be on TV. G’s boyfriend is a successful TV producer. Will you watch GP TV? Um. I will. Please. Of course you will.
