You see The Man From U.N.C.L.E. yet? Probably not if the box office is any indication. I took my niece and nephew last week to a 5pm show. They loved it. I liked it…for a 5pm show. My friend Lorella went the other night. First text from her afterwards was “Armie Hammer is hot”. It surprised me that that was her takeaway from the movie. Hammer had no effect on me. Henry Cavill didn’t either. But I did notice how beautiful he is.
There’s a scene in the movie where Henry gets out of the water into a truck and he finds a basket full of food and wine and he starts eating and drinking and some of his hair falls forward, covering his forehead and it’s dark but he’s shot so beautifully, it’s almost breathtaking. Almost. Because that’s just it. He’s beautiful… but you don’t desire him. Does that make sense?
Armie and Henry were in Rio yesterday to promote the film. As already mentioned, as you know, Straight Outta Compton took all of UNCLE’s money. Part of that is because SOC was marketed so well. But another part of it is because, well, people don’t go to the movies on the draw of either Hammer or Henry. Nobody cares. About Superman? Same thing happened with Brandon Routh. Maybe Superman just isn’t a movie star-making superhero (anymore).
