It’s taken forever to release this movie. For obvious reasons. Because homosexuals are still denied equal rights in too many parts of the world. Finally however I Love You Phillip Morris will hit theatres in New York, LA, and San Francisco on December 3 and then go wide through the rest of the month. The new red band trailer – NSFW – has just hit online.
This is a true story. And it’s actually a dark, but sweet, and subversive love story. Which, as you can see, is not what you’re getting from this clip. This clip has been cut so that these gays are kooky! crazy! wild! You know, for the members of the MiniVan Majority who watch Sex & the City without the swears and secretly hope their sons prefer girls over boys.
But I’m not sure I’m comfortable with the suggestion that the gay lifestyle is so expensive, it requires criminal activity to support. The end goal of course is to get people to see the film, and there they can appreciate a more full-bodied message. But will it work? And if it doesn’t work, does it hurt?
