There will be more of this. Pacific Rim doesn’t open until next Friday. So we’ll get at least another major carpet. And some television interviews. My interviews with Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Guillermo del Toro, Rinko Kikuchi, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day from the junket in San Francisco last weekend will air next week on etalk so I’ll save most of the details about being in a room with these two beasts for then (since many of you are still on holiday), but I will say, for now, that they’re waaaaaayyyyyy more sexy on the casual than they are on a carpet. Especially Charlie. As you know, he has that chin up problem when he’s posing for photos.
In person though, Jesus Christ it was too much. Charlie Hunnam slouching in a chair, drawling at me with that accent? Too much. And sitting next to this perfect, perfect man…
Idris was wearing a yellow t-shirt, topsiders, and CUT OFF JEANS. For press day. And…it was no problem. It was no problem imagining we were on a boat together enjoying a beer with the sun on our faces is my point.
You know what else I love about Idris? During lunch break at a junket, most actors retreat to their rooms with their publicists, preferring to stay away from the people, protected by their own people. Idris strolled out of the hotel by himself. It was a beautiful day. Warm, no clouds. He wanted to be outside, go for walk on his own, explore the city if only for an hour, no fuss. He can still do that now, especially in America, since he’s not yet a household name. Not yet. But soon?
