Dear Gossips,
We’re all supposed to be mature after a breakup. Any kind of breakup. It’s the “right” thing to do. If that’s the world you live in – congratulations. In my world, breakups are ugly and awesomely entertaining (if you’re not the one involved).
You know what’s great about a celebrity-publicist breakup? There are no children involved. So they don’t have to be civil for the sake of the kids.
Mimi and her publicist, Cindi Berger, are no longer working together after 15 years. Berger, because it’s her job, had her side of the story out first and the suggestion was that she was the one who ended the relationship. Now TMZ is reporting that it was Mimi who walked first. Somehow they’ve been given access to a letter that Mimi wrote to Cindi telling her it was over.
"I've done a lot of soul-searching this past year ... and I found myself asking if I was truly employing a healthy perspective (not to sound too Oprah about it all :). So I think it's time for us to take a break Cindi (as I want to) bring a fresh approach to this new phase in my career."
Cindi, naturally, claims the letter was never sent. Because in every breakup you want to be the one who quits first. The dumper is the stronger. When it comes to celebrity and publicist though, it looks even worse when you’re the star and you get dumped by your rep. Because remember, everyone knows these people are paid to wipe your ass. They’re better at it than anyone else. Their tolerance for it is higher than anyone else. Someone like Cindi Berger, who reps Simon Cowell and Rosie O’Donnell and some other high maintenance high profile people, isn’t new to the entitlement and the bullsh-t of celebrities. So if she really was the one to ditch Mimi, if even she could no longer stand Mimi…
What does that say about Mimi?
That’s what Mimi is trying to take care of right now. The idea that, OMG, she might be completely un-representable. Not just difficult to manage, but totally unmanageable. Which, um, from our perspective, is kind of the best thing about her.
Have a great weekend!
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
