Dear Gossips,

Did you hear about Wen Zhang, the Chinese actor who posted a cheating confession and apology on Weibo (Chinese Twitter), resulting in millions of comments and retweets that ended up breaking social media records over there?

His wife, Ma Yili, is carrying their second child while he was f-cking his co-star Yao Di.

"I have brought this upon myself. A mistake is a mistake. This has nothing to do with anyone else. Today, I am willing to accept all the consequences. I've let down Ma Yili and our children. My mistake does not deserve to be forgiven, and it will be difficult for me to make amends for all the harm I've caused. But I want to do it. I have to do it. This is what I'll do for the rest of my life."

We Chinese are really good at public self-flagellation. We love watching it too. I wonder if this might be a gift we pass on to Hollywood. Tori Spelling and her husband Kevin Federline Jr just signed on to a new reality show documenting their marriage after his release from rehab. You'll recall, he was busted for dicking around on her, then entered treatment, and now they're turning on the camera and letting us see whether or not they can make it.

Back in the day in China, if a dude f-cked up and embarrassed his family, he'd voluntarily kneel in front of the village and slap himself over and over again while apologising. The modern version of this is basically social media and reality television.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
