Dear Gossips,

Sandra Oh announced yesterday that she’s leaving Grey’s Anatomy. There’s no drama. There was no tantrum. And you don’t have to be Nostradamus to know that she won’t be sh-tting on the show at the end of it. Simply, for her, she thinks it’s time. And Shonda Rhimes doesn’t begrudge her for it, telling The Hollywood Reporter that:

“This is the first one of the five (Cristina, Meredith, Alex, Izzie, George) that's leaving where nobody wants them to leave; it's that feeling.”

I’ve not watched Grey’s in at least 6 seasons, if not more. People I know who do still watch do it for Oh’s Cristina Yang. She is the most consistently interesting and complicated character at Seattle Grace. And it sounds like Rhimes intends that she’ll stay that way to the end:

“We have a story that we want to tell and we want to tell it really well, and that story isn't about her leaving the show as much as it is Cristina Yang's growth as a person and as a surgeon. Cristina Yang is not going to magically decide she wants babies, no.”

But my favourite part of what Rhimes said of her show, soon entering its 10th season, for which she’s never given enough credit, is that even though it made headlines for McDreamy and McSteamy and etc, the foundation of it was always, always friendship:

“For a long time the show has essentially been a love story between Meredith and Cristina more than anything else.”

LOVE that.
