Halfway through American Idol last night Jacek turned to me and declared:
“I think Nicki Minaj might have just made my Five List.”
It was indeed her strongest episode. And her feedback feels genuine and raw, without the blatant intent to shock that has become Simon Cowell’s signature. The difference between Minaj and Mimi? Their judging styles almost reflect their careers -- Nicki is hustling, Nicki is still scratching her way up, while Mimi doesn’t bother anymore, except to adjust her hair, like she’s making sure her crown is positioned properly up on her head, her throne on her platform.
