Dear Gossips,
Well that was worth waking up for at 6am on a Sunday morning. Jacek says I’m a hex – anyone or any team I root for ends up losing: the Leafs, the Canucks, the Spurs. Amazingly I did not jinx Andy Murray. But Andy Murray had an entire nation behind him. And destiny, I suppose. So cheers to Andy Murray who fights for every single point and gets back shots that he doesn’t seem to have any business getting back.
But also, cheers to Marion Bartoli, the Wimbledon women’s champion of 2013 who has had to endure disgusting comments from the likes of the BBC’s John Inverdale who said this about her before her match on Saturday:
"I just wonder if her dad, because he has obviously been the most influential person in her life, did say to her when she was 12, 13, 14 maybe, 'listen, you are never going to be, you know, a looker. You are never going to be somebody like a Sharapova, you're never going to be 5ft 11, you're never going to be somebody with long legs, so you have to compensate for that. You are going to have to be the most dogged, determined fighter that anyone has ever seen on the tennis court if you are going to make it', and she kind of is."

Inverdale has issued an apology, from his ass. You know, “sorry if you were offended”. Which is totally not the same as saying “sorry that I offended you”. Click here for more on his statement and the BBC’s reaction.
Here’s Marion with her cute dad, looking pretty great for someone who was “never going to be a looker”, at the Wimbledon ball last night.
