Finally I can picture Jay.
It’s Thursday. I’m talking about Serial. I extended my commute into work this morning by an extra 15 minutes just to finish listening to Episode 8 because… What IS the deal with Jay???
I know nothing. Still. Except, of course, that Jen f-cking Pusateri (how Duana refers to her) always complicates it even more whenever she makes an appearance.
A lot of people have written a lot of essays about why Serial is so great. One of the reasons, for me, is that there’s no Photo Assumption in Serial. You’re not distracted by body language, facial expression, there’s nothing visual to focus on. Instead, it’s voice interpretation. And what’s interesting right now about voice interpretation is that, going forward, in the era of social media and emoji communication, I’m not sure that people “voice share” anymore.
How many times have you been annoyed by someone saying “sure” in response – either verbally or on your phone? They don’t mean it to be flippant. But for those of us who still remember “voice sharing”, it’s flippant!
Look, if you haven’t already, this is a great time for you to get on Serial. Because there’s an archive now. You can binge listen. While you’re driving, while you’re cleaning, while you’re running, while you’re flying. I’m jealous of you that you have almost 8 hours stored up all at once. Do it!
