Dear Gossips,
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced yesterday that Ricky Gervais would return as host of the Golden Globes in January. As you know, he did it for 3 years before Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who also did it for 3 years.
Ricky got in some sh-t the last time he hosted. As you know, Ricky will go for the mean joke. Like, if Tom Cruise were receiving the Cecil B DeMille Award, which is totally possible, Ricky would actually have the balls, at least I think he would, to make the really uncomfortable Scientology joke. Unless of course it's a condition of Tom's attendance - no Scientology jokes. Also very possible.
Speaking of the Cecil B DeMille, last year it was George Clooney. This year? Who could it be, aside from Tom Cruise? Did you know that Meryl Streep has yet to receive the Cecil B DeMille? One reason is because she's almost always nominated and the HFPA usually doesn't honour someone who's already in contention that year. With Suffragette this year for Meryl, that may be the case again. It's also because over the last 15 years, there have only been two female recipients of the Cecil B DeMille - Barbra Streisand and Jodie Foster.
The Cecil B DeMille Award is supposed to go to an individual for their "outstanding contributions to entertainment". Oprah's due. That's my prediction. You?
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
