Dear Gossips,

Like many of you, I have waited 10 years for a new Jeffrey Eugenides. The Marriage Plot is finally here. We’re going on a proper holiday in 2 weeks. A part of me wants to save it for the beach. Last night however I attacked the first chapter. Should I hold off and savour it in the sun? No willpower when it comes to books.

HBO announced in 2009 that they were working on a one hour drama series based on Middlesex, produced by Rita Wilson. This is something I try to unlearn all the time. Will it be everything? Will it be nature vs nuture via Cal’s genitalia and also an immigrant story and a love song to Detroit fused with Greek mythology and all culminating in self-discovery and so much more? In the hands of HBO, perhaps there’s less reason to worry. But I’ve not heard anything about the project in over a year.

Anyway, it’s Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend. I’ll be spending it with Eugenides. Am flying today, heading to Toronto and then Montreal on Tuesday for a 9 day trip. Have pre-written most articles and will follow up with anything missed tomorrow.
