Dear Gossips,

Justin Bieber has graduated onto the cover of Complex Magazine. For him, this further legitimises his efforts to be recognised as a grownup pop star and not just a baby singing into a microphone. And he takes the opportunity to share with us his new adult thoughts ranging from his relationship with Selena to his relationship with God to his mistakes and more.

“I am a man now” is JB’s favourite song. Like most 21 year old men, and, well, people in general, his sh-t isn’t as deep as he wants to believe it is. At one point he talks about Taco Bell and tacos in a comparison about going to church. It’s not an analogy that’s worth spending time on. To me, what’s most interesting is the insight he has on love after being in love and losing it. Because he’s not necessarily wrong when he describes the intensity of that first serious, all-consuming affair and how it can overcome and then become you. That was obvious with him and Selena Gomez. And it’s still obvious that despite the fact that he now claims to have learned from the experience, there’s still a lot to do, especially when he starts hinting that the sh-t that Selena would get upset about doesn’t bother other girls he’s been seeing.

“You get scarred from certain things (after a breakup). Even like – I’m kind of seeing this girl, right? I’m shy about doing or saying certain things, and then I say it, and it’s not even a problem. And I’ll remember when I couldn’t… You’re just scarred and you don’t do something because in your last relationship they’d freak out, but (the new person is) just like, “What are you talking about?”

Weak. Weak because there’s no accountability there. And the subtext is that some girls are just so difficult you know? And that you need to find the “cool” ones out there who won’t bust your balls. This attitude probably isn’t helped by hanging out with men like Floyd Mayweather. To me this is the most disappointing part of the interview, when JB is asked about his friendship with Floyd and defends him on the basis of being an entertainer. JB claims that he’s worked to remove the negative influences from his life. What is the influence of someone like Floyd Mayweather, a known abuser of women, on Justin Bieber?
