Everest will open the Venice Film Festival tonight and begin a possible run to Oscar. Early reviews are solid but no one’s out of their mind either. Jake has a supporting role in Everest even though so much of the hype around the film suggests that he’s a big part of it. Right. Because it’s Jake. Jake was in Venice today at the photo call. Later he’ll put on his tux for the gala. And a week tomorrow, he’ll put it on again in Toronto.

Because in addition to kicking off Venice, he’s also in the film that’s opening TIFF 2015, Demolition. Demolition won’t be released in theatres until April 2016. Some are speculating that the reason it was moved back is because Jake might have to focus on an award season campaign for his work in Southpaw. The buzz around his performance in Southpaw, however, has waned. The top contenders will be releasing films in the fall – Fassbender, Cheadle, DiCaprio, Redmayne, all of them are building momentum as the Oscars approach. Harvey will have to remind voters of Jake from summer. So he certainly won’t mind that Jake is hustling in Venice and Toronto, even if it is for other films.
