Like there’s not enough on his plate. James Franco has been nominated for an Oscar for his work in 127 Hours. He’s also hosting the Oscars on Sunday February 27th. That Friday he’s back on General Hospital reprising his role as performance artist “Franco”. He also appears on the show on Monday right after the Oscars. General Hospital airs on ABC. So do the Oscars. So it’s all well-timed. He’ll be everywhere that weekend. And he’s also at the top of every list for casting, his name attached to several high profile projects as Hollywood rushes to secure him while he’s riding this high. Somehow he’ll manage all this and go to class and teach class. About himself? Indeed, I WENT TO FILM SCHOOL has a lot to swagger about right now. I really really can’t wait to see the swagger on display on stage at the Kodak on Oscar night.

But a reader called Molly sent me an interesting video this afternoon, the first time in a long time I’ve found him likable. James is interviewed by two student reporters who are clearly overwhelmed in his presence. It’s the cutest thing ever. James is really sweet about it, very thoughtful, very gracious, not patronising, really cool and honest, and I do appreciate what he says to them at the end: that he’ll “cherish” it forever. Also – not ONE reference to FILM SCHOOL.

He should come out of his own ass more often.

Attached – Franco at the Oscar Nominees Luncheon earlier this week. He looks really good. And I LOVE that Annette Bening is on Jeff Bridges’s lap. She’s been so easy and free this entire campaign, so much more relaxed than Natalie Portman, enjoying it the whole way. I wonder if that’ll mean something later on.
