Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Gosling, Garrett Hedlund, Aaron Johnson…none of them are interested. Charlie Hunnam isn’t interested. Ian Somerhalder and Joe Manganiello ARE interested but EL James, the author of Fifty Shades Of Grey, who can’t convince Robert Pattinson to give her more visuals to finger herself to, thinks she can do better. James has casting control and reportedly believed her project would attract major talent. Well, it’s time to modify expectations.
According to The Hollywood Reporter Jamie Dornan has emerged as the frontrunner now. Here’s how I know Jamie Dornan: Marie Antoinette (a movie I loved but everyone else hated) and Keira Knightley – she dated him before Rupert Friend.
Dornan is beautiful. I saw him last year at an Oscar party. Not particularly tall but it’s a great face. Like a fragrance ad face. And it’s about right. Dornan is not a “name”. But he’s been waiting for his break for a while. Gyllenhaal, Gosling, Hedlund, Johnson, Hunnam – Fifty Shades needed them, but none of those actors needed Fifty Shades. That’s what their problem is. They’re coming at this like Fifty Shades is Christopher Nolan. Most actors on the top tier would give up anything to work with Nolan. This is not Fifty Shades. Fifty Shades is only Christopher Nolan for the unestablished (and Kellan Lutz – he wishes). Jamie Dornan then seems a good fit. But if only it could be Justin Timberlake, right? We should really Gossip Genie this.
