Right next to De Niro, but I'll be hood forever
Well if that’s the case, the hood is a lot classier than what might go down at prep school.
Page Six reports that at a party the other night, when Jay-Z greeted Robert De Niro, De Niro bitched him out for not calling him back. Apparently De Niro had wanted Jay to perform for the Tribeca Film Festival and rang him several times but Jay never responded. De Niro supposedly called him rude and didn’t let it go, laying into Jay for quite a while.
Good.
As it should be.
But you know what I also appreciate?
Jay just took it. He eventually tried to lighten the situation with some humour but he didn’t storm off, he didn’t mouth back…
He ate it. De Niro kept feeding it to him and he ate it.
As it should be.
I wish we didn’t have to commend someone for doing something as it should be but more and more, it feels like doing as you should is the exception.
When you are wrong, you eat it. You eat it for as long as it takes.
Imagine if Jay was Alec Baldwin? I don’t think it would have gone down that way if it had been Alec Baldwin. Or …Chris Brown. Chris Brown doesn’t know sh-t about eating it. Chris Brown apologises twice and expects to not only be forgiven but celebrated. Had it been Chris Brown with De Niro, a bottle would have been broken and a rant would have been posted on Twitter.
Knowing that Jay-Z just put his head down, didn’t let his ego get in the way, and allowed himself to be told, undressed in front of a roomful of starry people, I dunno, I think I might like him even more.
As for De Niro - they’re saying his performance in Silver Linings Playbook is his best in a long, long time for which he may get a Best Supporting Actor nomination.
