Jennifer Lawrence – conjured!

Am I a conjurer?

Yesterday I opened the blog with a post about how Jennifer Lawrence has kept a very low profile for several months. And then late yesterday, new photos of her out in New York with Darren Aronofsky were released. They went to see Beauty And The Beast. Then they went out for lunch, after which they hugged, split up, and went their separate ways.

Do you hug your boyfriend/girlfriend/partner when you’re going in different directions? I’m not talking about at the airport and you won’t see each other for a while. Wait, no, specifically, I’m talking about if you live with someone, do you hug them when you say goodbye at the coffee shop and then you head to work but you’ll see them later at night at home? Jacek I do not hug on these occasions. But we’ve been together, Jesus, over 17 years. Jennifer and Darren have been together less than a year. Based on that, and the fact that they hugged, my totally unscientific, unqualified opinion is that they are not living together.

On this week’s episode of Show Your Work, Duana and I talk about Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, and how he’ll be starring with her in a film he wrote and will direct. The issue was whether that works in Hollywood. It works for Warren Beatty and Annette Bening (f-ck I forgot to cite this as an example) and it didn’t work for Sam Mendes and Kate Winslet. Jennifer and Darren started at work. Which is its own intrigue and you could deep dive the f-ck out of that dynamic. Like, is that part of the attraction? The … authority on one side and on the other side the command aspect of it, for lack of a better word? I’m sure some would argue hard that, as artists, there is no boss, there is only a partnership. But that’s actually a director’s job, to direct the whole enterprise. In their case it was temporary. But, to me, it’s still an interesting beginning.
