Here’s Mrs Timberlake at Letterman last night. I love this dress -- Roland Mouret. It’s gorgeous. And it fits her beautifully. And it’s exactly what Victoria Beckham wishes she could come up with. Next season, maybe. What I don’t love is the coat she chose to wear over it. I think the length is what’s bothering me. Also I hate the shoes.

Anyway, as part of her promotion for Hitchcock, Justin Timberlake’s wife spoke to Vanity Fair and was asked about whether or not she would work with her husband:

“I would if it was the right thing. Definitely. I don’t know what that is, though. I’m not sure what the right thing is. I think you have to be very careful about working with your partner. But that would be so much fun; I absolutely adore him. I actually would prefer him to direct me in something. I think that would be the way to go.”

The way she talks, you get the impression that she’s an actor who’s actually discerning about her choices -- “if it was the right thing”.

Playing For Keeps starring Mrs Timberlake and Gerard Butler will be released in December.

Bonus points to her, I guess, for the honesty though. Because OF COURSE he would direct her. He jumped on her head in their wedding portrait. He made that entire day about him, even the moment when she walked down the aisle. Why wouldn’t he be the boss? He is already the boss. He is her Hitchcock in life -- mercurial, egomaniacal, cruel -- only without the talent. It’s total submission: what she gave up to win the “jackpot” of last names.

And still...

The delusions persist.

Mrs Timberlake wants to be considered for “big scale films”. Like Anna Karenina. Or... Dr Zhivago.

Will it ever end? The overreaching?

Even the question of whether or not she would return to television is answered like it’s... a favour, like she’s Meryl Streep deigning to try another medium:

“Yes, I would. TV is so . . . I mean, the writing, and the possibilities for women on television is just, the world is your oyster, pretty much. So yes, I would.”

As if she can lip quiver and cry in the company of Claire Danes. As if she could f-ck her brother with as much conviction as Lena Heady. You know where Jessica Biel would be perfect on TV?
