Clint Eastwood is making a movie about J Edgar Hoover and his lover Clyde Tolson. Leonardo DiCaprio has long been attached to play Hoover and now word is Joaquin Phoenix is being courted for the Tolson role, working from a script written by Dustin Lance Black (Milk) on a project that already has people talking Oscar.

Clint is an efficient, brisk director. He works fast, he doesn’t mess around, and he has no time for drama or arty f-ckery. It’s actually exactly what Joaquin needs: no coddling. As noted on many occasions, he’s a wonderful actor. SO good. He’s also too far up his own ass. Getting back to proper work is great move. For his sake, hopefully this deal happens soon.

And according to NY Magazine, it sounds like everyone wants it to. In fact, Casey Affleck’s acknowledgment that I’m Still Here was totally fake could have been a strategic move to help his friend get hired. Now that everyone knows Joaquin was “acting” crazy, they’ll be more inclined to hire him because they won’t think he’s actually crazy.

What?

Yeah my head hurts too.

Interestingly enough, you know that Joaquin was originally up for Jake Gyllenhaal’s part in Brokeback Mountain, right ? And Leonardo apparently took over from River Phoenix in Total Eclipse and Man in the Iron Mask and Basketball Diaries after River died. In an interview this year, Leo revealed that he idolised River back in the day:

“I always wanted to meet him. One night, I was at this Hollywood party, and he passed by me. He was so beyond pale -- he looked white. Before I got a chance to say hello, he was gone, driving off to the Viper Room, where he fell over and died. That’s a lesson.”

Leo and Joaquin shooting together? Both meticulous, both extremely, sometimes overly committed? And Clint Eastwood presiding? Like I said before, I want to be on that set.
