Here’s Johnny Depp at the premiere of The Rum Diary last night in LA looking... pretty good and not that bloaty anymore, right? He looked pretty good and not that bloaty during his interview with Larry King too. I’ve attached a clip below. (Thanks Mary!) Johnny’s recounting a story about how he lived in Hunter S Thompson’s basement.

As expected, Johnny, while promoting the film, has been speaking candidly about their relationship and how much he misses his friend:

"It was a love affair, a major love affair that hung around until he made his exit. He's with me all the time, whether I have a dream about him or something happens during the day and you think, 'My God, Hunter would really love this.' I miss the 3am phone calls asking me if I'm familiar with the hairy black tongue disease. I miss getting him riled up about some sports event or something like that. I miss everything."

There are more good quotes and recollections here - click - including the story of how they met and “sparks flew”. It’s really, really cute. It’s the kind of information - eccentric, original - we’ve come to love from him, that sets him apart from some of his movie star peers.

The Rum Diary opens October 28th.
