I interviewed Josh Brolin for Gangster Squad a couple of years ago. Half our interview was about Ryan Gosling’s balls…which wasn’t actually what I was asking. All I did was throw Josh a question about Ryan, what's he like to work with, their chemistry, etc. And then he started talking about Ryan’s balls and how they’re like a “vineyard”. My sense was that he was mocking Ryan’s preciousness. We’ve heard about this before. About how he’ll be in a comedy and he’ll still need to know what his “motivation” is in a scene requiring him to just stand there and look good. And there were rumours that after he and George Clooney worked together on The Ides Of March that George didn’t have a lot of patience for his accent. Speaking of that accent….

Josh is currently doing press for Everest. And in a new interview with Man Of The World, he brings up an accent.

“I see young Hollywood punks on the set, and it’s funny to me. Because it’s absolutely me all over again. I’m the old guy who’s like, Oh cool, you got your leather jacket and it cost you $400 and you bought it all ripped up! I remember a guy I worked with who was from Ontario, but he talked like De Niro. I was like, Holy sh-t, he’s actually doing De Niro. Does he know that I know? I’m not even listening to what he’s saying. It’s fascinating to me.”

No one was named, specifically, but come on. We all know who he’s referring to. Who else could it be? I f-cking love this story. I love it so much. I love that Josh Brolin sits around talking sh-t about why a kid from Canada sounds like Robert De Niro. I love that if Josh is talking about it, other people, his peers, must be too. You think it’s ever come up between Josh and Sean Penn? They’re tight. Or has he mentioned it to Benicio Del Toro ever? During Sicario? Hey, Benicio, you know that Canadian kid, Gosling, right? Have you ever asked him why he talks like De Niro?
