Three recent Oscar winners were at the Palais tonight for the opening of the Cannes Film Festival:

What do you wear on a Cannes carpet? Think of it like the Oscars… tweaked Euro. There is no such thing as too much. So Julianne’s deep cut, feathers, and sparkles? Perfect. I mean you’re not going to go wrong anywhere in this outfit but especially here, sur le tapis rouge, it’s perfect. And so of the moment. This is not a dress that feels like it already had its time…
Unlike Naomi Watts’s. The vibe is similar…but when you put the feathers on the skirt, I’m thinking about 2005, not 2015.
Like Julianne and Naomi, Lupita also went with a plunge. It’s such a Lupita look, this. The pleats, the vibrant colour, and the one wing at the back like a cape? LOVE SO MUCH. The only tweak I would make to this? I don’t think the flower detail at the waist is necessary. I think the shoulders would pop way more if it wasn’t there.
And Natalie Portman showed up in a red column dress.
