"Also, how about Julianne Moore's performance in Still Alice? Incredible, right?"

That was Fred Armisen's running gag in his Independent Spirit Awards monologue today. It's also the night's comedic highlight so far.

Yes, she is incredible. It was the most memorable performance of the year. I still remember the buzz about it from its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. It was buried in the schedule on a Monday afternoon with no press screenings, so I caught it at 8:30 a.m. the next day and was blown away. Click here for a refresher.

Now, months later, Julianne's been cleaning up at awards show after awards show with no signs of critical, press, or fashion fatigue. On every carpet, she's sporting a fresh new look and her chartreuse, black, and silver sequinned Dior couture dress at the Indie Spirits is her best one yet. Youthful and breezy, Julianne's retro cocktail length number shimmered under the lights, with its bold colour highlighted by its ebony collar and arm sleeve outline.

Back in September, I called Julianne "woefully under-awarded." She keeps adding to her trophy case with Still Alice, yet that's still a true statement. Until tomorrow.
