Kate Winslet doesn’t go out every night in New York. Hardly. But she stepped out last night to honour Mario Testino at the El Museo Del Barrio Gala. As you know, Testino is responsible for what Prince William regards as the best photos ever taken of his mother. For that reason, he asked Testino to shoot his engagement portraits.

Last night, 600 people were in attendance as Kate presented to him a silver Asprey tray signed by 35 of his “closest friends” including Tom Ford, Grace Coddington, Sienna Miller, Anna Wintour, Julia Roberts, Demi Moore, and more.

Why Kate?

Testino says she’s one of his favourites. His ultimate favourite, of course, is Princess Diana. Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kate Winslet are listed among his Top 5. Winslet actually addressed this in her speech, opening with:

"The two other Kates, Kate Moss and Kate Middleton, were unavailable so you have to make do with me."
