Every year, for the Oscars and the Globes, Duana and I set out the list of celebrities to cover and then divide the list between us. Every year, there’s one person we fight over. This year, we fought over Kerry Washington. Kerry was initially supposed to be Duana’s. And she would not give her up. I had to keep coming back to it, keep negotiating. Finally I just whinged. She relented. Kerry is mine!

The reason I wanted Kerry so bad was because I wanted her to be my best hair. You know what Duana did? She finished her article for best hair before I could get to mine for Kerry. Which is how she punished me for taking Kerry from her. This is friendship.

Kerry wore a one of kind Dolce & Gabbana. I used to think no one could do D&G better than Scarlett Johansson but I was wrong. This is exquisite on Kerry, especially the cap shoulders that look detachable, like armour, like wings. I like that the dress feels solid instead of soft, rigid and substantial. The consequence of that, however, is how it falls. And where it stops. Also I’m not crazy about the bottom or the shoe choice here. The straps don’t work at all.

But none of that matters because holy sh-t her hair! I’m really into straight hair right now. Just before Christmas I had two inches cut off of mine because the daily heat-styling was killing the ends so my goal has been to only heat-style once a week for TV and wear it straight the rest of the time. Seeing Kerry last night has strengthened my resolve. God this hair, and with the dark lip. I can’t get enough of it.

Kerry was at the Globes with her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha. There was one cutaway of them at their table.
