President Snow?

Many of your questions during our liveblog discussions on Tuesdays and Thursdays and your emails too involve casting for The Hunger Games series. Right now, no one has been confirmed. And from what I heard, as of early this week, there’s not even a shortlist. So they are seeing everyone. And everyone wants it. Also the script and other logistical details are still being fine-tuned so we’re a ways away. But we can still play, as Ausiello likes to call it, Armchair Casting Director.

As previously noted, Philip Seymour Hoffman is my Haymitch. Henry Hopper currently has my vote for Gale. There’s a young Australian rather unknown actor (at least in North America) called Rhys Wakefield that I’ve had my eye on for Peeta. Click here for his IMDB. I’ve also included a clip of him below from a soap opera he worked on back home. Katniss of course is the big question mark. I hear you about Kaya Scodelario who was wonderful as Effy in Skins, obviously, and has proved she can excel at duplicity but I am fixated, straight up fixated, on wanting Katniss to be a complete new thing. Like a major find, out of nowhere, much like our flawed heroine herself.

Anyway, just now I was browsing through the photo agencies, getting updated after coming home from the gym. There are some new Kiefer Sutherland photos, walking around in Paris like a steezy badass. And then I realised: this is my personal President Snow. Have you heard is voiceovers for Ford? They’re creepy. He can be so creepy. Easily. And evil too, no problem. Think of him maybe 10 lbs lighter, because Snow is very skinny, at least in my mind, with shock white hair, and some freak ass Nicole Kidman lips which I’m sure, in this era of special effects/makeup is easy to do, skulking around dropping white roses everywhere. It’s him. It’s totally him.

Agree or disagree? Send me your thoughts. Or better yet, save them for the LiveBlog on Tuesday.
