As you know, I am all about reading YA. As I’ve noted, too many times, YA is way underrated. Good YA is as profound, complex, and insightful as any “adult” classified counterpart and again, if you don’t believe me, check out The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (YA) which is a masterpiece compared to Yann Martel – yeah, THAT Yann Martel – and Beatrice & Virgil, his latest smug mess. Ugh. When a book is bad it makes you hate life.

Here’s Lucy Liu with the most amazing skin on the set of Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You in New York, based on the novel of the same name – YA – by Peter Cameron. I read this in a day a couple of years ago on our anniversary retreat to Tofino and I remember Jacek rolling his eyes in exasperation at one point when he found me, curled up on the couch, crying and laughing while RE-READING my favourite passages. If it gets you the second time around, you know it’s something you’ll love for a long time.

This book is wonderful, and it’s wonderful too that it’s being made into a movie, because coming of age isn’t only for straight people. Toby Regbo plays the lead character James. You know who else Toby plays?

Oh just some wizard called Dumbledore.

He is Young Dumbledore.
