Chiwetel Ejiofor was not at the Oscar Nominees Luncheon yesterday. Michael Fassbender wasn’t either. And Brad Pitt was absent too. So it was left to Lupita Nyong’o to represent 12 Years A Slave as a nominee for Best Supporting Actress. She’s the film’s only sure thing as Ejiofor sits a distant third, if that, behind Matthew McConaughey and Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Actor, Fassbender won’t stand up, and the movie’s in a tight fight for Best Picture.
June Squibb was the only other Best Supporting Actress contender who was at the event. Jennifer Lawrence is shooting The Hunger Games in Georgia, Sally Hawkins didn’t bother, and Julia Roberts is grieving the death of her half-sister. Lupita’s holding it down for everyone. But am I allowed to say that I don’t like what she’s wearing? Those shoes are a disappointment.
