Matt Damon was at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln today for student orientation. Apparently he’s the “parent, guardian, or mentor” to a young man, reportedly his nephew. According to school officials, he asked to be given no special treatment whatsoever, preferring to take the campus tour as every other “parent, guardian, or mentor” does. With a name tag stickered to his shirt: M Damon.

Understandably, he attracted the attention of some of the other students. And when that happened he happily posed for photos and he wasn’t surrounded by security with a publicist shoving her hand in people’s faces which is why there was no hysteria, no crowds, and no mess. Not a bad thing to say about the man, really. I’ve been around him at charity events when he’s turned down a green room because he doesn’t want to roll like that. An exception, I promise you.
