Laura and I, who happily delight in Kristen Bell’s failures together, are fighting over this. Not because we disagree. But we because we agree. And we both want. It’s mine, she said. And I told her to step off.

Is it me and Laura against the world?

You probably hate it, right?

This is Michelle Williams, my best of the Met Gala 2011, and Laura too, last night in Miu Miu. First of all, I have a thing for wearing animals on my clothes. Horses, birds, turtles, whatever, if there’s a piece of clothing in a store with animals all over it, I will buy it, no hesitation. Especially when the animals are presented as exquisitely as they are on this dress. Look at the detail!

But mostly it’s how she’s wearing it. I like the bronze business happening on her face. I like that it doesn’t seem like she tried super, super hard but at the same time, that what she chose is interesting and worthy of inclusion on a night where so many people played it safe. And, ultimately, it suits her. That’s a dress that works for Michelle Williams. It wouldn’t work on Blake Lively, it wouldn’t work on Rachel Bilson, SJP, Gwyneth Paltrow, it probably wouldn’t work on most.

You know who it would work on?

Cate Blanchett.

I mean, if you can share a dress with Cate Blanchett...
