Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher had to slum it last night at the People’s Choice Awards because they have a movie due out on January 21 called No Strings Attached. That happens to be just 4 days before Academy Award nominations are announced. And while I don’t think that Strings is a total Norbit (it’s Ivan Reitman, after all), I also don’t think Portman, in particular, who is contending for Best Actress, really loves the timing. I do love it though that she’s pimping a film about uncomplicated free sex while pregnant. Just me I guess.

This is her first official public appearance since confirming that she’s expecting and engaged. Already a more mature, even somewhat matronly (the hairstyle) look. Let’s convince the Academy that they wouldn’t be giving the award to a little girl.

I have friends who still want to date her in Beautiful Girls. One of them emailed me last week when he heard about how grown up she is with a baby on the way and he was all like, but that’s the girl who was going to fall in love with me when she turned 18!

I know I’ve said it too many times. But I have so much love for that movie, if you haven’t ever watched it, you’re really missing out. Ted Demme was on his way to making some extraordinary films.
