Remember when Scarlett Johansson was considered to be the top candidate to replace Angelina Jolie in Gravity (about a woman stranded in space) co-starring Robert Downey Jr? Five minutes later, somehow Blake Lively who, at the time, was working with Scarjo’s husband Ryan Reynolds, was auditioning for the role, and Scarjo’s position was much less secure.

Well now f-ck them both.

Because on the heels of the overwhelming success of Black Swan at the Venice Film Festival, with much of the praise directed at the performance of Natalie Portman, she is now director Alfonso Cuaron’s favourite, and the studio has apparently offered her the part WITHOUT an audition, especially noteworthy because no one else – aside from the Jolie, obviously – was given the same pass.

Natalie is considering it. Yesterday she was considering it in New York, photographed walking her dog, pouting at the paps, crusty despite the fact that she’s now been elevated, thanks to Darren Aronofsky, above almost all of her peers with the exception, perhaps, of Keira Knightley. Few actresses under 30 can get a studio go ahead on $80 million without even having to screen test.

And I will say it again: I hope that movie No Strings with Ashton Kutcher doesn’t suck badly. Because, well, it would be a shame to truncate all this momentum with a sh-tty romantic comedy.
