Today is Women’s Equality Day in the United States, marking the 95th anniversary of the 19th amendment to the US constitution, confirming women’s right to vote. So it makes sense that a new poster for Suffragette has just been released via EW.com. And here’s a new video commemorating the day and previewing the film:

Female voters outnumber male voters in America. The same is true in Canada (up to age 64). In government, however, women represent only 20-25% of elected officials in America. Click here to see more detailed statistics. The same is true in Canada. We have an election coming in Canada in October. Suffragette comes out in October, just 4 days later.

They’re hoping Suffragette will be part of an election, of sorts, too in February at the Oscars, voted on by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences which is… 75% male. They can’t deny it if it does well at the box office though. So will you go see Suffragette on the first weekend?
