Here are the 5 actors nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award:

George Clooney, The Descendants
Demian Bichir, A Better Life
Leonardo DiCaprio, J. Edgar
Jean Dujardin, The Artist
Brad Pitt, Moneyball

Missing?

Michael Fassbender.

Leonardo DiCaprio, who’d been losing so much momentum, who barely factored in any of the critics’ selections, suddenly just...showed up. Because Leo has a LOT more friends among actors than Michael Fassbender. And, frankly, in Hollywood, don’t those three names - Clooney, DiCaprio, Pitt - look a lot better on a list?

Yes, yes, the Brange is hitting up another awards show. Seeing as there’s no way one of them, if not both, will be nominated for a Golden Globe tomorrow, it pretty much means they’re riding the entire circuit. We will be kicking off 2012 with a LOT of Pitt Porn.

Wouldn’t it be so great if Bridesmaids won the SAG for Best Picture? Like, really, really great TV, really, really great messaging, really, really great as a way to connect with read audiences? The SAG, remember, is about the ensemble. If it were up to me though, on personal preference and what films I enjoyed this year, among the five nominated features (Bridesmaids, The Artist, The Descendants, The Help, Midnight in Paris), I’d give it to Midnight In Paris.

As for the Meryl Streep-Viola Davis showdown...again, if it were up to me, based solely on performance, I’d give it to Michelle Williams. To me, her Marilyn this year is untouchable. But observe now as the Davis campaign starts accelerating. You might not see it so openly, but you will feel it. You will feel it in the form of Will Smith. What Julia Roberts did for Javier Bardem last year? Multiply that by 50 and watch how Smith exerts his power. The question is how much fight Harvey Weinstein will give Will Smith in support of Meryl Streep. Or whether or not he’ll be pulled back and told to ease up by Meryl herself. And if those two ladies make it so hard for voters, they end up anointing Michelle instead.

Other notes of interest:

It’s over for Kirsten Dunst.

The Actors decided on Glenn Close and Tilda Swinton. I’d say that’s a pretty good indicator of how the Academy will go. Not a good day for Elizabeth Olsen and Charlize Theron.

GO MELISSA MCCARTHY

Coach Taylor but no Tami???

Will Kate Winslet bring Ned Rocknroll You’re A Loser?

Here are Judy Greer and Regina King announcing this morning. Yay Judy Greer! But who told her to wear those red pants? Not the right occasion... not the right occasion. And she knows it too; look how uncomfortable she appears to be.
