Kacey Musgraves won Album of the Year. Lainey and I were gushing over Golden Hour all night. We both love the album. I was defending her performance of “Rainbow” to friends over text because while it did feel like it dragged during the broadcast, “Rainbow” is a gorgeous song with a beautiful message. Full Story

Let Cardi B SHINE

That’s a direct message to Offset. I hate that Offset’s name is in the first sentence of anything I’m writing about Cardi B, let alone a post about her first Best Rap Album win for Invasion of Privacy, her FIRST album. Cardi became the first female solo artist EVER to win Rap Album of the Year at the Grammys (we’ve already established the show has had a women problem). Full Story

Lady Gaga has always been extra. That word doesn’t seem large enough for what Gaga has always brought to her performances and to her overall aesthetic. She does everything BIG. She FEELS. She LIVES when she’s on stage. She’s Celine like that. Yes, Celine Dion is now a verb for feeling all the feels when you’re performing. Full Story

This is the Grammys. Set those words to the tune of Childish Gambino’s “This Is America.” The track won Song of the Year and Record of the Year last night, making it the first rap song in HISTORY to win those categories. In its 60-year history, the Grammys only now found a rap song they deemed worthy of two of their biggest honours. Full Story

Michelle opens the Grammys STRONG

Well, if you want to start your award show strong, starting with Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama is one way to do it. I know that the only First Lady we acknowledge didn’t actually open the Grammys (Camila Cabello did with a performance I forgot about immediately after it happened) but it felt like the show didn’t start until she stepped on stage hand in hand with Jada Pinkett Smith and Jennifer Lopez. Full Story

Mahershala Ali, a reluctant frontrunner

Mahershala Ali made history at the SAG Awards last night. He became the only actor to win the Best Supporting Award twice in the show’s 25-year history. At this point, you can already put Mahershala’s name down on your Oscar ballot for your office pool. He’s the safest bet in a season full of tight races. Full Story

#RentLive: What we were supposed to see

Expectations were high. At least, *my* expectations for Rent: Live on Fox were almost as high as my inevitably maniacal range of emotions. Hysterics were expected. This is a groundbreaking musical about young people taken too soon by a senseless disease. It’s about the magic that can happen when you actually tell stories of queer, diverse people – at a time when those stories were barely being told at all. Full Story

When Regina King Talks

That was my poor attempt at a play on If Beale Street Could Talk, but seriously, no one talks like Regina King. In an award season that refuses to give us a break from insufferable, worse-than-Hathaway twee speeches from Lady Gaga (I like Gaga but can she DO LESS please?), we’ve been saved by Regina King. Full Story

Crazy Rich Asians is The Favourite

Lainey and I watched The Critic’s Choice Awards together over text. Sometimes she was ahead and sometimes I was, depending on bathroom breaks, dog walk breaks, etc. When Crazy Rich Asians won Best Comedy, Lainey texted me about a minute before I heard the reveal with an “Omgggggggg!!! Kathleenn!!!!!” Only one thing could get that many exclamation points out of Elaine Lui. Full Story
