How do you know you’re a narcissist? When you think everything is about you.

When Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth got back together, I was hot for about 5 minutes. Then they started selling it to me like a piece a of sh-t on the lid of a trash can. About how she had to “earn” him back. About how he had to “take” her back. Last week, US Weekly posted a story about how she’s been “waiting on him hand and foot”. Yesterday PEOPLE piled on and reported that “she’s doing everything to make him happy”.

"For the past few weeks, they have lived a very secluded life," says a Cyrus source. "When they are not working, they rarely leave home. They often have people over for dinner, and Miley has gone from a wild child to a housewife."

And though the two formerly butted heads over Cyrus' wild behavior and ultimately called off their first engagement in late 2013, Cyrus "is doing everything to please and make Liam happy" since the pair reunited in January, according to the insider. In their first go-around, "Liam couldn't handle when Miley acted nutty," says the source. "Miley's problem was that she thought Liam was boring when he complained."

But now the "Wrecking Ball" singer is "toning things down and acting more normal," says the source. "She even stopped hanging out with friends that are too wild. She is very focused on making things work with Liam."

I live on the internet. No one else seems to be complaining about this as much as I am. Are they doing this just to bug my ass? See? It’s all about me. I am a narcissist.

But seriously. SERIOUSLY.

Apparently it’s not just sources on Liam’s side making these claims. Some of them are from Miley’s circle. And it would seem like they’re meant to be helpful. Who is this helping? Check her Instagram. She’s still the same Miley. Two weeks ago she posted a selfie with a giant spliff hanging out her mouth. So it’s not like Miley’s the one who wants to change her image for her man. Someone else is trying to do it for her. Which would suggest that they believe that this new image they’re creating, one that presents a Miley reformed by love, is the one that people want to see, and is, therefore, better?

F-ck that.

I am not here for the Miley Cyrus who compromises her identity in exchange for whatever it is that Liam Hemsworth is willing to give her. Miley’s transformation from Hannah Montana to the Miley we’ve gotten to know over the last few years was by her own design. You can call it a rebellion. You can call it immaturity. You can also call it growth, on her terms. This is the problem with how the “new” Miley is being sold to us. She has no agency here. And agency has been her brand since she started sticking out her tongue.

Happy International Women’s Day, indeed.
