The first trailer for Wild, adapted from Cheryl Strayed’s bestseller, has been released, starring Reese Witherspoon. As I wrote a couple of months ago, they’re scheduling this film for Oscar ambitions. Reese wants #2.
One of our producers on etalk, Joanna, compared the introductory vibe of Wild to 127 Hours – the sunburst, the landscape. I looked at it totally differently. To me, it’s Eat, Pray, Love…only instead of Italy, the setting is a lot more desolate, the story darker. It’s as dark as Reese Witherspoon is going to get, I guess.
But this is what they’re hoping Academy voters will respond to.
Who would she go up against? Oh, I’m hoping Amy Adams (in Big Eyes) will be part of that conversation. I’m hoping Amy Adams will finally come through. It would be extra sweet if she could come through over Laura Jean Poon.
