It was part of Robert Downey Jr’s acceptance speech at the People’s Choice Awards last night. You know what cracks me up about this event? More than at any other, it’s so obvious that the winner has been brought out right before their honour, in the front row. Check him out in the video below, sitting beside two randoms. The blonde to his left? I would bet he has no idea who she is.
But the “people”, they wouldn’t know this. They just know that they love him. Four years in a row they have loved him so much that they’ve named him their Favourite Movie Star. And he shows up for them. And he gives them what they want. A quippy opening line. An anecdote about his wife and baby. A loopy few lines about fans vs critics and why he appreciates their side. And then a cute closer that brings it all together.
