Ruby Sparks opened in limited release this weekend. I haven’t seen it yet but really, really want to.
For a few reasons:
I love Zoe Kazan and she wrote it.
I love Paul Dano (remember how wonderful he was in Little Miss Sunshine?).
I love that Zoe and Paul love each other in real life.
Also…the line in the trailer when his brother tells him “You can make her do anything you want”. Oh but that’s the potential, isn’t it? That’s where it can be more than just a girl from his imagination, the Zooey Deschanel of his mind. Like, even when you make the perfect person, there’s no such thing as the perfect imagination. And, more intriguingly, what’s the fine line between choreographing a relationship and creating your own submissive? Maybe I should stop overloading it with expectation.
